CALL FOR PAPERS : Narrative/Non-Narrative/Anti-Narrative
A conference on short film and narrative form.
28th - 30th November 2005 at The Watershed, Bristol, England. The University of the West of
England's Creative Media Research Group and the Watershed invite
academics, film makers and all with an interest in the form to attend
and contribute to a conference examining the issues that surround short
film. Existing in a myriad of forms - from artists' film, music video
and machinima to community video - short film's diversity has defied
characterisation. In a context where its discourses have been dominated
by narrative theory, it has become the crucible of the new and requires
critical interpretation and interrogation. Are traditional modes of
thinking adequate to attend to these issues? Have games and digital
production methods further disrupted and added to what we can understand
to be film? What does the increasing ability to work and interact with
communities bring to an understanding of what film is - both creatively
and critically? Narrative/Non-narrative/Anti-Narrative 2005 seeks to
examine these questions, drawing on the multiplicity of disciplines
involved in the making and the critical evaluation of short film. Those
wishing to present should submit an abstract of up to 500 words
detailing presentations lasting 20 minutes. Please include with your
abstract requests for technical or viewing facilities.
Deadline for the submission of abstracts: Monday, 28th February 2005
